solving problems in physics requires understanding how the system would work. Instead of looking for the right equations, try to visualize how the system would work? what the factors affecting the system? what are forces acting and is energy conserved? what type of energy it has? Once you have understood, now it’s time to describe it! how?? use math! and our tool is Newton’s law! and Bingo!! you have solved it! because the rest is, solving linear equations ( I assume at your level you don’t need to solve differential equations).

Example, let’s say a block is moving in an inclined plane find the velocity of it ( of course you will need other details) Now instead of looking for equations, look for the forces acting and energy conservation, and ask yourself, why the block would move? what is role friction playing? how gravity affects it? once you understand how and why the block would move, you will solve it in a min!
