IFS  is one of the Civil Services of India and belongs to the apex All India Services. The Indian Forest Services placed under various State cadres and joint cadres  though they have the mandate to serve both under the State Government and Central Governments. The main mandate of  The Indian Forest  service  main aim to control environmental stability and maintenance of ecological balance.The Indian Forest Service officer is largely independent of district  administrative, judicial powers and financial powers in their own domain. All top positions in state forest department held by IFS officers.

Eligibility Criteria for IFS 

A candidate must be a citizen of India,

Candidate should hold a Bachelor’s degree with at least one of the subjects namely, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, , Chemistry, Botany, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics and Zoology or a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture or Forestry or Engineering of a recognised university or equivalent.

UPSC conducted IFS exam two stages

1.Civil Services Preliminary Examination (Objective Type)
2. Indian Forest Service Main Examination (Written and Interview).

Paper III, IV, V & VI – Any two subjects to be selected from the list of optional subjects set out below. Each subject will have two papers.
