So often, it is the simplest acts of courage that touch the lives of others.

The author, Sudha Murty-through the exceptional work of the Infosys Foundation as well as through her own youth, family life and travels-encounters many such stories. She talks candidly about the meaningful impact of her work in the devadasi community, The Author Explain them here in her characteristically clear-eyed, warm-hearted way. her trials and tribulations as the only girl student in her engineering college and the unexpected and inspiring consequences of her father’s kindness.

From the quiet joy of discovering the origins of Indian vegetables and the reach of Indian cinema to the shallowness of judging others based on appearances, these are everyday struggles and victories,  small and large. Unmasking both the beauty and ugliness of human nature, each of the real-life stories in this collection is reflective of a life lived with grace.

Her books have been translated into all the major Indian languages. Sudha Murty was the recipient of the Padma Shri in 2006 and the R.K. Narayan Award for Literature and the Attimabbe Award from the government of Karnataka for excellence in Kannada literature in 2011.

Three Thousand Stitches Book

What Sudha Murty offers in ‘Three Thousand Stitches’ is a share of her experiences and outlook towards life in a simple and honest way. After reading this I have been deeply inspired by her commitment towards whatever she has chosen to do. She writes about her personal anecdotes with her family, teachers and friends who have touched her.

Readers connect to her writing because of the cordial Indianness she fills it with. If one wants to know what it takes to battle all the struggle and hardships in life, this is an exciting read. I must add that the cover of the book is exhilaratingly beautiful, not just because of the colours but for the emotions attached with the story behind it. Read the book to know more. Each chapter is like a page of her life, many layers and many lessons. I am glad she chose to share it with us readers.

Three Thousand Stitches Review

While I am not very fond of books in particular, but have always come to cherish experiences. I learnt about this book through a news article in a leading newspaper, where some excerpts from the book (regarding Mrs. Murthy’s experiences at an airport) were quoted, and that really caught my attention. I decided to order a copy, and was so hooked that I read it entirely in one go. Aptly titled ‘ordinary people, extraordinary lives’, this book beautifully narrates several experiences of Mrs. Murthy, and immerses you into a different world of tranquility.

While Mrs. Murthy is certainly a highly revered person, her experiences from a humble start and her modesty in narration makes them so relatable. The narrative is very simple, and yet very catchy. The book has rather inspired me to order other publications by Mrs. Murthy, and I am sure this is a reader’s delight.
